It’s Saturday Night –
time for more Genealogy Fun!
Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music here) is to:
1) What is your favorite summer memory?
When it comes to ‘favorite’ memories, they mostly involve family. However, I have one summer memory that has stuck with me that did not involve family. Instead, I did something very unusual for me. I went on a bus trip by myself!
Can you guess what the destination of this bus trip was?
This bus trip was my first introduction to the tour director, Ruth Keys Clark. During this trip and the second one I took, Ruth became one of my mentors. Not only did she teach me a lot about genealogy but she also encouraged me to become more involved in genealogical societies — particularly the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies.
I am thankful that I had the courage to make that journey to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah under the guidance of Ruth.
I recognized the front doors immediately. That would have been one really fun trip!
How fun! My mom took me to the FHL library in the summer of 1983 as my graduation gift from high school. I did not have to take a bus trip alone, though. It would have been nice to have a tour guide. I was very overwhelmed.
