Do you ever have a plat map and land records that don’t seem to agree?
In my early days of research, I worked with Walter Salts, a Warren County, Indiana genealogist. During that time, he sent me a transcription of a Warren County deed for the sale of land from Nelson G. Crawford to Washington M. Crawford.

When I compare these deeds to the 1877 plat maps of Jordan township, there isn’t a Crawford shown as the owner of the west half of the northwest quarter of section 24, township 22 range 10.
Thus, it is obvious that I need to locate a deed for the sale of this land by James H. Crawford.
Not only do I need to locate that deed of sale, I also need to locate a deed where Washington Marion Crawford purchased land in Washington township since he is shown as a land owner in section 18 on the 1877 plat map.
Thanks to these plat maps, I know that I’m missing some deeds. Thus, I still have work to do!
