Changes

Do you feel like the changes are coming at you at “warp speed” when it comes to the genealogy tools you use? I know I do! Between AI tools, Ancestry DNA updates and a new version of RootsMagic, it seems these changes are being announced all at once!

AI

I doubt anyone can keep up with AI. Thankfully, there are others that are helping me stay aware of how this technology is being used.

  • Randy Seaver – Randy has been having fun lately using AI tools to write poems, lymerics and even songs about himself and/or his ancestors. Randy shares his work on his Genea-Musings blog and via Facebook posts. See his post, “The Tales of Devier Smith” – An AI Created Rhyme and Song, for one of his songs and details about how he is doing this.
  • Mondays with Myrt – June 17th session featured a lesson on Transkribus, an AI tool to transcribe and translate old documents.
  • Facebook Group – Genealogy and Artificial Intelligence – great discussions about various tools and ways to utilize AI to help with research
  • Sider – Released an update resolving my previous issues! Now, I’m back to using Sider to transcribe newspaper articles.

Ancestry

If you haven’t heard, Ancestry is starting to roll out the updates to DNA matches. I don’t have this update yet, but am anxiously awaiting some of these new features. Check out Your DNA Guides’ announcement.

For more in depth directions on how to use Ancestry’s new features, you might want to watch Genealogy TV’s demonstration.

RootsMagic

And just as I was begining to catch up with AI and Ancestry, I notice a lot of discussion of Facebook about RootsMagic 10 that was released on Wednesday! Surprisingly, I missed seeing announcements about a potential new version so was taken by surprise when I read that version 10 has been released.

Randy Seaver also has a blog post about this new version, RootsMagic Version 10 is New! that contains a list of the new features. Like Randy, I have purchased a copy and have it installed. I’m currently checking out some of the new features, but will likely migrate my work to this version.

With all of these changes, it looks like I will be spending some of my time ‘learning’ as I continue to research!
