Have you used any AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools? Do you have a FAN CLUB for a brick wall? Have you ever thought about diagraming your Fan Club and the relationships?
I do have a Fan Club for my Crawford research but had not thought about trying to diagram the relationships. Then I saw a post on the Genealogy and AI Facebook group discussing various tools.

Since mid-June I’ve been thinking about creating a diagram. While I might be able to verbalize the various relationships, I’ve struggled to diagram them. So, I decided to start with a spreadsheet. Using the information in my RootsMagic file, I pulled events for various members of my Fan Club to create a ‘time line’.

Then I asked ChatGPT to take my spreadsheet and create a diagram.

And it gave me back what looked like a ‘scatter plot’ with orange and yellow dots.

In hopes of getting those dots labeled, I asked for it to identify the nodes. And ChatGPT kept giving me ‘updated’ diagrams with those orange and yellow dots. Then, I just happened to click on the icon to ‘Switch to static chart’

That simple click changed my digram from the orange and yellow dots to a diagram with names and connecting information.

Working with this diagram, I asked ChatGPT to
- Label the nodes with individuals and places
- change the node labels to RINs for individuals and names for places
- show more detailed events
- Generate a more complex diagram
And it produced the following diagram using the RIN numbers for the individuals.

I was not able to re-create the diagram. However, I am still learning and will try again another day.
I love how often the answer is just on the other side of “poking around to see what happens”
