Saturday Night Genealogy Fun

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It’s Saturday Night again –

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision. Here’s your chance to sit on Genea-Santa’s lap (virtually) and tell him about your Christmases past.

Rev up the olde thynking cap and cue up the Mission Impossible music – your mission should you decide to accept it – keeping with the Christmas theme – is:1)   Today’s challenge is to share memories of December holiday gatherings and celebrations with your families (as a child, a young adult, a parent, a grandparent, a great-grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a nibling, a cousin, an in-law)!

2)  Pick two or three questions from the list in my blog post:  Ask AI Gemini:  “What questions can I write about concerning family gatherings and celebrations during the December holidays?”  This is a new list of questions somewhat different from last year’s list.

3)  Tell us about your memories of your holiday gatherings and celebrations in your own blog post, in a comment here, or on your Facebook page.  Be sure to leave a link to your report in a comment on this post.

Do you have a family heirloom that only comes out during the December holidays? Can you trace its provenance?

When my parents downsized, one of the items that I received was the nativity set. I’m not sure of the provenance of this nativity set, but my memory says that it was in my grandparents house prior to my parents.

  • What is the funniest or most dramatic mishap that ever occurred during a December holiday celebration?

One Christmas morning, everyone woke up to the smell of a fully cooked turkey. Upon investigation,it was discovered that the oven had been left on ‘broil’ from the night before. Thus, when the turkey started cooking, it was broiling instead of baking.

Photos document some of our other ‘funny’ instances. One year, we decided to create an image of a Christmas tree decorated with the backs of our heads.

Another year, my niece made chef’s hats and aprons for several family members. This ‘gift’ was also documented with a photo.

Where was the most memorable holiday gathering location (a specific house, town, or country)? Why did that location hold special significance?

Growing up, Christmas meant presents under the tree of my parents before going to my grandparents for Christmas dinner. After the death of my grandparents, we gathered in Texas several times. The first time, we flew to San Antonio for a few days after Christmas. Since my parents were full-time RVers, this gave us a chance to visit their ‘winter’ home in Hondo, Texas.

After my father’s death, we spent flew to Austin, Texas to spend a few days ‘camping’.

While we continue to gather as a family around a campfire, our ‘cabin camping’ has moved to October and takes place at Acorns Resort in Kansas.
