As a former user of The Master Genealogist, I expect my current genealogy software to take the sentences created by each event and build a narration for an individual’s life. Unfortunately, I still have a lot to learn about the way RootsMagic builds the narrative report.
Thanks to information posted in the RootsMagic Community Forum, I did figure out how to create paragraphs (i.e. some white space). I elected to customize the sentence where I wanted a new paragraph by adding two carriage returns at the beginning of the sentence. Those two carriage returns create a blank line before the sentence.
Now, I need to figure out how to resolve several other issues:
- The first letter is not capitalized for some sentences (see second paragraph above)
- In many cases, there doesn’t appear to be a space between the superscript at the end of one sentence and the first letter of the next sentence.
Hopefully, the forum will help me figure out how to resolve these issues.
I like the fact it numbers each fact with the source for easy footnoting or referencing. I have FTM 17, while I can create a totally custom report and drag and drop all elements (media, narrative, sources, notes) into it and type in my own words, I can’t figure out how to get it to do that. 🙂 I was thinking about getting RootsMagic, maybe between the two I can make an amazing report. I wonder if roots exports to word like FTM?
Amy M – RootsMagic narrative report witll create a report for the following of record types: Ancestors only, Ancestors and children, and Descendants reports [NGSQ (modified register), NEHGS (egister), Outline (indented), Henry (indented) and D’Aboville (indented)]. The options let one select options like endnotes, footnotes, bibliography, indexing. Once created, the report can be printed or saved. The save options include RTF, PDF, HTML or text. I often use the RTF option and then open it in word.
There is an option to include photos. The photo option only includes the primary photo for the person.
I’ve only worked with reports for an individual – but I’m finally getting output similar to what I had with TMG.
