Wetmore Boys Build and Fly Plane
Forrest Cromwell and Norman Shipman of Wetmore, student pilots flew their home-made airplane Sunday in a field two miles north of Wetmore. Cromwell and Shipman had a pilot from Missouri fly their plane for the first time last fall and Sunday Cromwell took it up for the first time himself. The boys have been driving to Topeka where they were taking flying lessons.
Raymond Newlin, who lives near Wetmore and has recently completed a plane of his own, had Shipman fly it Sunday. Both planes took off from the cow pasture airport and after flying around for some time were set down in the pasture with a perfect landing.
Quite a feat to build and fly their own plane!
