Joins the Atlantic Convoy
Victor Welborn Sent to Destroyer Unit
According to information received by Mrs. Belle Welborn, mother of Victor Welborn, 17, sailor, the United States Navy now has a strong guard of destroyers assigned to patrol duty n the Atlantic sea lanes.
Thus the great war draws closer to one Seneca fammily.
Victor, a graduate of the Seneca high school last spring, soon after joine the Navy at the Great Lakes Naval training station, Chicago. It is from this station he has been transferred to the East coast for sea duty. Victor wrote that 116 destroyers have been assigned the duty of convoying passenger liners. It is presumed they guard ships which are returning American refugees from the war zone.

There were a lot of young men joining the service even before we joined the war. I always wonder if they thought our entry was inevitable.
