Friday Finds

Nelson G. Crawford’s son, William C. Crawford died 6 Nov 1860 leaving behind his wife, Mary and unborn son, William Clay Crawford. His brother, James H. Crawford was appointed administrator of his estate. James H. Crawford resigned his role as administrator when he enlisted in the military during the civil war.

I obtained a photocopy of his probate file from Warren County, Indiana.

discharge the duties of my trust as Administrator
of the estate of William C Crawford deceased,
according to law, so help me God

Know All Men, That we James H Crawford
Nelson G. Crawford and Mary E Crawford
are found, unto the State of Indiana, in the penal sum of
sixteen hundred Dollars
for the payment of which we jointly and severally bind ourselves
our heirs, executors and administrators.
Sealed and dated the 16 day of November A.D. 1860

The condition of the Above Obligation is, that ifs the above bound
James H Crawford shall faithfully discharge
the duties of his [?] as Administrator of
the estate of William C Crawford deceased,
according to law, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain
in full force.
