Nelson Garret Crawford1 was born on 17 Oct 1808 in Preble, Ohio, United States.2–5 He was the child of James Crawford and Sarah “Sally” Smith.6 He lived in Warren County, Indiana in 1829.3 Nelson was a farmer. He filed certificate #11152 for land being 80 acres in the Section 8 Township 21 North in Range 8 West at the land office in Crawfordsville, Montgomery, Indiana, United States on 18 May 1830 .7 He received a patent for land being the west half of the north west quarter of section eight in Township twenty one north of Range Eight West in the district of lands subject to sale at Crawfordsville Indiana containing eighty acres on 2 Dec 1830 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery, Indiana, United States.8–9 In 1832, Nelson was listed on the tax rolls for chattle property in Gasper Township, Preble County, Ohio.10–11 He lived in Secton 8 in Warren County, Indiana in 1832.3 He purchased land being the S 1/2 of Secion 30 in Township 23 N of Range 9 W for $1600 from William A Duggins on 2 Sep 1833 in Pine Township, Warren, Indiana, United States.12 He married Martha Smith on 3 Sep 1833 in Warren, Indiana, United States.2–3,13–19 On 19 Jun 1834, James H. Crawford was born in Warren County, Indiana.3,20 On 28 Nov 1835, William C. Crawford was born in Warren County, Indiana.3,20 Nelson was listed as a voter in the presidential election in Washington Township, Warren County, Indiana in 1836.21 He sold land being the SE1/4 NE1/4 S35T22R9 to Henry Hall for $100.50 on 28 Dec 1836 in Warren County, Indiana.22 He filed land entry papers for the NE 1/4 NE 1/4 S35 T22N R 9W in district of lands subject to sale at Crawfordsville, IN containing 40 acres on 30 Mar 1837 in Warren County, Indiana.23–24 On 21 Apr 1838, Mary Elizabeth Crawford was born in Washington Township, Warren County, Indiana.3,20,25 On 21 Apr 1838, Washington Marion Crawford was born in Warren County, Indiana.3,20 Nelson lived in Warren County, Indiana in 1840.26 In at 1840, Sarah Amanda Crawford was born in Warren County, Indiana.3,20,27 He purchased land being the SW 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of section 7 in township 21N of range 8W on 10 Dec 1844 in Warren County, Indiana.28 He purchased land being the North East quarter of the North East quarter of Section No Seven (7) in Township No twenty one (21) North of Range No Eight (8) West containing 40 acres on 6 Sep 1848 in Warren County, Indiana.29 Nelson lived in Washington Township, Warren County, Indiana in 1850 and was listed on the census as a 41 year old farmer born in Ohio with $2500 in real estate.30 He filed land entry papers for the South East quarter of section nineteen in Township Twenty three North of Range Nine West on 1 Feb 1851 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.31 On 10 Dec 1851, Celia Carrie Crawford was born in Warren County, Indiana.3,20,32 He sold land land being the SE 1/4 Section 19 in Township 23 N Range 9 West to Harrison Goodwine on 24 Sep 1852 in Warren County, Indiana.33 Nelson purchased land being the NW 1/4 of Section 24 in Township 22 N of Range 10 W from Oliver Swank on 5 Apr 1853 in Warren County, Indiana.34 He purchased land being the E 1/2 NW 1/4 Section 8 in Township 21 North of Range 8 West and the NE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 Seciton 8 in Township 21 N Rage 8 west from Washington M Pugh on 5 Apr 1853 in Warren County, Indiana.35 He was appointed executor of the will of his father, James Crawford, in 1854 in Preble County, Ohio. 36 Nelson sold land land being the S 1/2 of section 30 in Township No 23 N of range 9 W to Harrison Goodwine on 3 Jul 1857 in Warren County, Indiana.37 He sold land land being the East 1/2 of the North west quarter of section 24 in Township 22 North of Range 10 West to Mary and Elisha Briggs on 19 Oct 1859 in Warren County, Indiana.38 He lived in Pike Township, Warren County, Indiana in 1860 and was listed as a 51 year old farmer born O with $8000 in real estate on the census.39 Nelson witnessed the probate of William C. Crawford on 16 Nov 1860 in Warren County, Indiana.40 He died on 21 Mar 1864 at the age of 55 in Warren County, Indiana.3–5,41 He was buried after 21 Mar 1864 at West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, Indiana.5,42 Nelson had his estate probated on 14 Jun 1864 in Warren County, Indiana.41
