Green River Land

While trying to find a deed for 50 acres of land on the Marrowbone that I think my ancestor, James Crawford may have owned, I was trying to find the original land entry. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any land entries or deeds for this land. However, while looking at land entry records in Green County, I found several entries for members of my CRAWFORD FAN club: namely Douglas and Dooley.

The first is an entry by Nathaniel Douglass for 200 acres. At this point, I’m not sure this Nathaniel Douglas fits in my FAN Club. My FAN club includes George Douglass and his descendants. George had a son named Nathan. FamilySearch does not have any brothers identified for George Douglas. Could the Nathaniel Douglas in the land entry be George’s son, Nathan? Maybe. But lots of research would need to be done to prove that Nathan and Nathaniel are the same person.

No 503 We do hereby certify that Nathaniel Douglass is entitled to
200 acres of 2nd rate land by virtue of his having improved the same
agreeable to an act of the assembly entitled “An act for encouraging
& granting relief to settlers & located as follows upon a branch of [Tillwill]
waters of [Obeys] & Cumberland rivers beginning at a poplar & [pointers]
thence extending N70E S20ES70W & N20W for quantity so as to
include his improvement.

Then, I found an entry for Jacob Dooley. At this point, I don’t believe Jacob Dooley is a son of FAN club member, Capt. Moses Dooley. This might be an entry for the brother of Capt. Dooley, Private Jacob Dooley. The deatils for Private Jacob Dooley indicate that he resided in Madison County, KY, making it possible that this land entry is for him. Thus, I have added a discussion to that those more familiar with Private Jacob Dooley can determine whether he entered land in Green County, Kentucky.

This land entry could be for Capt. Moses Dooley or his son, Moses Dooley. A check of the tax records suggests that this entry is for the son since it is Moses Junr who owns land on the Marrowbone.

Not only did the 1800 tax list help me figure out which Moses Dooley entered land in 1799, it also alerted me to the fact that I’m missing two other DOOLEY land entries: one for Moses Dooley Senr and one for Thomas Dooley who evidently sold his land to Moses Dooley Senr.

These land entries place the Dooley family in the southern part of Kentucky prior to 1800. They provide another clue about the migration of my CRAWFORD FAN club.
