Maybe or Maybe Not

Do you have people that appear to have a connection to your tree but so far you can’t prove it? That’s my case with Jacob Thompson and his wife Rhoda Evans. Jacob and Rhoda were married in Warrick County, Indiana in 1844. Their first child, James, was born in Indiana in 1845. By 1847, they are living in Wapello County, Iowa.

Also living in Wapello County, Iowa in 1847 is my ancestor, William T. Thompson. William married Polly Ann Evans in 1842 in Warrick County, Indiana. William is thought to be the son of John Thompson and Sarah Iglehart while Polly Ann Evans is believed to be the daughter of James Evans and Sally Garret. I’m still collecting documentation linking William and Polly Ann to their respective parents. However, Ancestry’s ThruLines supports this relationship.

Unfortunately, ThruLines does not show Jacob Thompson and Rhoda Evans as descendants of John Thompson or James Evans. The FamilySearch tree currently has Jacob Thompson as a son of John Thompson.

However, WikiTree does not have a parent shown for either Jacob or Rhoda.

While waiting to access more Warrick county Indiana records, I decided to research the descendants of Jacob and Rhoda to see if ThruLines would recognize a relationship. So far, I do not have ThruLines matches for descendants of Jacob Thompson or Rhoda Evans. Until I can locate documentation linking Jacob Thompson or Rhoda Evans to parents or siblings, I’m forced to consider the possibility that Jacob Thompson and Rhoda Evans are not related to my Thompson and Evans lines.
