Henry Evans Land

That’s what I did when searching Warrick County, Indiana deeds for James Evans. Along the way, I also collected deeds for Henry Harrison Evans. Below are transcriptions of those deeds.

I Henry H Evans of the county of Warrick Indiana do
hereby mortgage assign over & transfer to R. E. Mathewson commissioner
of the school lands in the county of Warrick and his successor
in office for the use of Congressional township NO. 7 in Range 8
the following described land to wit East 1/2 North East 1/s Sec 35
town 6 range 8 & S.W. 1/4 of SE 1/4 section 24 township 7 range 8 west to secure
the payment of the sum of one hundred in three years from date with
interest thereon as th rate of ten per cent per an payable annally
in advance I do agree that said land and all my title interest
and claim therein may be exposed to sale if any part of such prinicple
and interest or of either of them be not paid at the time the same or
either of them or any part thereof shall become [due] as here in
stipulated or within six months thereafter for the payment of
all the principle & interest in arrears with five percent damage
thereon and all costs and I hereby acknowledge my self bound
for the payment of deficiency int he amount of
principal interest & costs after such sale to be recovered by
such commissioner or his successor in office by action of debt
in any court of [competent] jurisdiction in witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal this 15 day of June 1838

This Indenture made this tenth day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred
and forty nine between Henry H Evans and Indiana Evans his wife of the county of Warrick and
State of Indiana of the one part and Bruckstone Johnson of the county and state aforesaid
of the other part Witnesseth that the said Henry H Evans for and in consideration of the sum
of eight hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Brackstine Johnson the receipt whereof
he doth hereby acknowledge hat granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and
doth by these presents grant, bargain sell and convey and confirm unto the said Brackstone
Johnson his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land known and
designated as the west half of north west quarter of section thirty six & the east half
of the north east quarter of section thirty five in township six south of range eight
west in the district of land subject to sale at Vincennes Indiana containing one hundred
and sixty acres to be the same more or less together with all the appurtenances thereunto belong
ing and the [revisions] remainders and profits thereof and all the estate right title & interest
of the first party in and to the same to have and to hold the premises aforesaid with all the appurt
tenances to the only proper use benefit & behoof of the said second party their heirs and
assigns forever and the first party for themselves their heirs executors and administrators doth
warrant and agree to & with the said second party that they the first party are lawfully
seized in fee of the premises aforesaid that they are free from all encumbranes that they
have a good right to sell & convey the same in manner and form aforesaid and further
that they & their heirs executors and administrators shall and will warrant and
forever defend the said premises to the said second party his heirs and
assigns against the lawful claims of themselves their heirs and also against the lawful
claim or claims of all and every other person or persons whatsoever.

of each of their own act and deed she the said Indiana Evans wife of the said
Henry H Evans being of full age and the full contents and purport of the said
indenture having been by me first made known to her and being by me seperate
and apart from and without the hearing of her said husband privately examined
upon such seperate examination she did [?] declare and acknowledge that she
voluntarily and of her own free will and accord and without any coercion
or compulsion from her said husband signed sealed and delivered the said

our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty between Henry H Evans
and Indiana Evans his wife of the county of Warrick and state of Indiana
of the first part and Joshua Barns of the same place of the second part
witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration
of the sum of two hundred dollars lawful money of the United States to
to the said parties of the first part by the party of the second part
paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto
the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns for ever all the following
described piece or parcel of land situate in Warrick county Indiana
to wit, the west half of the north west quarter of section no one in township
no seven south of range no eight west of the lands sold at Vincennes Ind
together with all he privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging
To have and to hold the same to the said Joshua Burns his heirs and
assigns for ever hereby covenanting that the title so conveyed is clear
& free and unincumbered by any act of the grantors herein In witness
whereof the said Henry H Evans together with Indiana Evans his wife who

Francis Douglass Jnr of the county and state aforesaid of
the other part witnesseth that the said Henry H Evans for
and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars
to him in hand paid by the said Francis Douglas from the
receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted
bargained sold conveyed and confirmed and doth by these
presents grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto
the said Francis Douglass Junr his heirs and assigns
forever a certain tract or parcel of land in the county of
Warrick aforesaid it being the north west quarter of
the North east quarter of section twenty township six south
range seven west containing forty acres more or less together with
all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and the
revisions remainders and profits thereof and all the
estate title and interest of the said Henry H Evans
in and to the same to have and to hold the premises
aforesaid with all the appurtenances to the only proper
use benefit and behoof of the said Francis Douglas Junr
his heirs and assigns forever and the said Henry
H Evans for himself his heirs executors and admin
istrators doth covenant and agree to and with the

Sheriff’s sale
By virtue of a writ of execution issued out
of the office of the Clerk of the Court of
Common Pleas of Warrick County, Indiana
in favor of Hansel Ingram and against Russel
Armstrong and Henry H. Evans, bail, and to
me directed, I have levied on and will on
Saturday, the 17th day of August 1867 be
tween the lawful hours of said day, at the door
of the court house in the town of Boonville
expose to sale at public auction the rents, is-
sues and profits for a term not exceeding seven
years of the following described real estate in
Warrick county, Indiana, to-wit:
The west half of the south east quarter, and
the east half of the south west quarter of sec-
tion No. nine (9) in township No. four (4)
south of range No. six (6) west, and on failure
to receive a bid therefor sufficient to satisfy
said execution, I will at the same time and
place in like manner, expose to sale the fee
simple of said premises, without relief form
valuation or appraisement laws.
