Facebook Copyright Infringement Notification

Are you a Facebook (or Instagram or Threads) user? Do you manage a group or page on Facebook? If so, there is apparently a new scam going around.

I am one of the administrators for my church’s Facebook page. As a small church, our page isn’t overly active. However, I recently received a ‘copyright infringement notification’ for the church’s page.

Since I try to avoid copyright issues, this notification concerned me. However, the notice did not tell me how we had violated the copyright law on our Facebook page.

Being suspicious, I searched Google to see what I could learn about this notification. One of the first things I found was a CyberNews article, “Facebook Users Targeted in Copyright Infringement Scam.”

After a little more searching, I found a Bytes Cares Blogs post detailing how Meta (Facebook) notifies users about copyright issues, Meta Copyright Infringement eMail. One section of the post details, How Facebook Sends Copyright Infringment eMail.

According to this blog post, an actual infringement email would have detailed the content in question.

Since the notification I received did not provide such details, I am assuming it is a scam.
