Today’s find comes from a letter written to the Recorder of Deeds for Platte County, Missouri in 1998 when copies of deeds for Matthew M. Bland were requested. Below is the transcription of the deed from Book D page 258. Unfortunately, page 259 was not received with the original request. Thus, part of the justice of the peace’s testimony is missing.

This Indenture made on this [24th] day of April in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and forty six between Shelton L. Lowe and Mary Lowe his wife
of the county of Platte and sate of Missouri of the first part and Matthew Martin
Blann of the County and state aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that the
said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of three hundreds
dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath
bargained and sold unto the said Matthew Martin Blann and do by these presents grant
bargain sell and covey unto the said Matthew Martin Blann a certain tract or
parcel of land situate being and lying in the county of Platte and state
of Missouri and described as follows: to wit: the north half of the south
west half of the south east quarter of section thirty four in township NO.
fifty four of range thirty six in the Plattsburgh land district containing
forty acres more or less with all and singular the appurtenance thereunto
belonging or in any wise appertaining to his own use and the said S L Lowe
& Mary Lowe his wife for themselves their heirs executors and administrators
jointly and firmly by these present so warrant and defend said tract
of land to the said Martin Blann and his heirs forever against the claim
of any and every person whatsoever and they the said party of the first part
do relinquish all right and title to said land in any respect. In tes
timony whereof the said S L Low and Mary Lowe his wife have here
unto set their hands and affixed their seals Signed Sealed and de
livered in presence of . this day and year above written
