It’s almost here!
Are you attending RootsTech 2024 in person? Or, are you joining me and attending virtually. Either way, are you prepared to get the most out of this conference starting tomorrow?
While I did not catch Thomas MacEntee’s “Get the Most Out of RootsTech 2024 Virtual” webinar in person, I caught it on YouTube.
Watching the video prompted me to do several things to enhance my virtual experience.
- Signed up for email updates
- Rechecked my class schedule and realized I could schedule the ‘Main Stage Countdown’. I’m hoping this ‘session’ is where some of the vendors will announce their updates.
- Learned that I can download the syllabus for most sessions
- Learned that the RootsTech app is designed for use by those attending in person and not virtually
- Learned that there will be a ‘virtual expo hall’
- Was reminded that there are wonderful ‘help’ groups on Facebook

While I’m anxiously awaiting the start of the conference, Relatives at RootsTech is already available!
Thus, I’ve already started working with my ‘relatives’.
Since dealing with over 26,000 relatives can be challenging, I like to use the ‘By Ancestor’ filter to view them.
Last year, I created a spreadsheet to keep track of some of these relatives.
This year, I’m just adding ‘new’ relatives to the spreadsheet. While it might be fun to connect with a Facebook friend that is a cousin, many of those friends are very distant cousins. Instead, I’m interested in identifying people that I might actually be able to colloborate with.
This year, I plan to contact many of those 4th and 5th cousins giving them my Ancestry user name and tree name. I am also hoping to encourage them to check their DNA matches to see if we are DNA cousins.
Hopefully, I will not only get a response from some of these cousins but also identify DNA matches.
So, I will be spending the next few days in my office ‘attending’ RootsTech 2024 and working thru my list of ‘Relatives at RootsTech. ‘
Will you join me?
