Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:
It’s Saturday Night again –
Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.
1) What have you done at RootsTech 2024 so far (we’re in the third day), either in-person or online? What has been the highlights for you so far?
RootsTech 2024 has been fantastic! Yes, there have been some hiccups, but I find it amazing that I can sit in my home office in front of my computer and get all of this content for FREE!
As I’m writing this, it is Saturday afternoon and my laptop is waiting to connect to the 2:30 pm (CST) session. I’m hoping to also watch a session at 4 pm – but my ability to pay attention is starting to lag.
As a virtual attendee, there are a couple of suggestions that I’d like to make for next year.
- First, how do we #NotAtRootsTech attendees evaluate sessions? I’ve listened to quite a few excellent sessions but haven’t been able to find a way to provide that feedback. Yes, you can do it on the app. But, the app doesn’t work if you are a virtual attendee.
- Second, is there a way that virtual attendees could get a schedule of the exhibit hall presentations? I heard thru the grapevine about a WikiTree presentation. Thus, I was able to find it on YouTube. But what about all of those presentations that were recorded that I haven’t heard about.
On Friday, I posted RootsTech that summarized my activites on Thursday.
Technology issues threw my Friday schedule off a bit. Thus, I was trying to play ‘catch up’ with missed sessions. Sessions that I’ve watched from Friday and Saturday’s schedule include the following:
- Did My Family Get Skipped? Mining Census Records for Missing Ancestors — Nicole Gilkison LaRue
- You Can Do the DNA #2 – Get Your Best Ethnicity Estimate – Diahan Southard
- General Session 2
- You Can Do the DNA #3 – Light Your DNA Match List on Fire! – Diahan Southard
- Brick Walls! Real? Or Created through Faulty Research – Barbara Vines Little
- Getting the Most Out of United States Census Records – Julie Merrill
- You Can Do the DNA #4 – See What DNA Success Looks Like: Real Case Studies – Diahann Southard
- A Pro’s Take on Preserving Your Story with FamilySearch – Jimmer and Whitney Fredette
- General Session 3
- Unexpected Treasures: Family History in the American State Papers – Judy G. Russell
