Know all men by these presents that we John C
Bashford & Mary Bashford & James Guardian of
Ro[b]ert Catharine Elizabeth Jane William Nancy
& Ruth Bashford of Stark County and State of Ohio
being the Heirs and legal Representatives of John Craw
ford decd who departed this life in the County of Lincoln
and State of Kentucky nominated constituted & appointed
John Bashford our true and lawful attorney for us
and in our names place and stead to constitute any suit or
suits where at Common Law or in equity in the State of Ken
tucky for any or all lands back [rents] [slaves] hire & all &
every other [th]ing whatsoever [in]which [we] may in any way
be entitled in and to each & every special property in
the State of Kentucky [which] the same be real person
al or mixed , which ascended to us by virtue of the Laws
of descent in Kentucky in consequence of the [said] death
of said Crawford , And we further Authorize & request
our said attorney to employ any [or] & all such attorney or Attor
neys & Counsellors as Law to carry on & prosecute the business
in such manner under such circumstances as he or they
may think best for all concerned & to make any contract
or contracts and to give such fee or fees as he our
said attorney may think proper & to the advantage

of all concerned we further authorize cursed Attorney to enter
into and take possession of any and all Lands which may
be recovered in the State of Kentucky & to take possession of
any and all the Slaves which may be succeded [&er] he is
further authorized and invested with ample full & complete
power to Settle & adjust all claims & controversies touching the
matters in contest to settle or compromise all or any suit or suits
wicch any and all the necessary parties to the Same and to
Sign any deed or deeds of conveyance or other instruments of
[?] to any & all persons interested in and about said land
& slaves & every other Species of property relative to said business
or the reception of any money from the estate of John Crawford
decd in fact our said attorney is fully and to all intents & purposes
authorized and empowered & requested to do any and all busi
ness he may think proper & deem necessary about said premises
as fully as we could do were we personally present acting &
doing for ourselves , our said Attorney as further authorized &
[invested] week full & ample power to nominate Constitute &
appoint any one or more attorneys for himself and in his
place & Stead as he may deem necessary & expedient who
when so appointed shall have and be fully invested with
All power and authority which we have given & reserved in
our said Attorney John C Bashford , And all hereby ratify
and confirm whatsoever as said attorney may do or cause
to be done in and about the pr[e]mises

are hereunto subscribed do certify that John C Bashford &
Mary Bashford & James [Stet]s Guardian for Robert C [Bacharene]
Elizabeth Jane William Nancy Ruth Bashford personally
appeared before us , two of the Justices of the peace when &
for said County and State aforesaid and acknowledged the within
foregoing power to be their act & deed for the purposes therein
mentioned & consented the the Same may be recorded in the
Clerks office of [all the] County Courts in the State of Kentucky we
further certify that the said John C Bashford Mary Bashford
& James [Stuts] Guardian for Robert C. Catharine Elizabeth
Jane William Nancy & Ruth Bashford personally
known to us to be the same persons whose names are

County & State aforesaid do hereby certify that Daniel
Stump & George Stermer whose names are subscribed
to the foregoing [certificate] now are & were as the time of
Subscribing the same Acting Justices of the peace when &
for the County of Stark duly Commissioned & qualified as
such that the Certificate is in due form of Law & the Signatures
are true & Genuine , and that full faith & credit are due & should
be given to all their acts as such . In testimony whereof I
have hereunto set the seal of my Court and office this 31st
day of December 1842

thereon together with this certificate hath been duly ad
mitted to record in my Office . Given from under
my hand this 14th day of February 1843
