Do you use an AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools? As I’ve learned about a tool, I’ve been experimenting with the tool to see if and/or how it could help me with my genealogy research. One of those tools that I started using after RootsTech 2024 is a Chrome extension called Sider.
Sider will take an image of a newspaper article and transcribe the article. That was working great until around June 1st (2024) when I started experiencing issue. In my AI Issues post, I summarized those issues. While I can’t verify it, I think the issues began when a major update to ChatGPT was released.
Curious as to how ChatGPT handles the transcription of newspaper articles, I found that ChatGPT could do the same task.
I then submitted a ‘question’ to Sider help. They responded with a request for more information, including a video showing the steps. I created such a video and submitted it along with the image of the article to Sider.

A few days later, Sider updated. And I’m very pleased to announce that Sider works again! Thank you Sider for this valuable tool!
