Friday Find

From my MINNICK files

Do you have photocopies from books that indexed county records in your files? As I was going thru my MINNICK files for today’s Friday Finds, I came across photocopies from a book published by the Henry County, Illinois, Genealogy Society.

At the front of the book is a section containing tombstone inscriptions from the Old Kewanee Public Cemetery. My third great-grandfather, John Minnick, his wife Elizabeth, brother Peter W and son Wilson J are listed in this cemetery.

The bulk of the book is a transcription of the death index for Henry county, Illinois.

Since FamilySearch has digitized most of the U.S. county records, I searched the catalog to see if the original index was available on FamilySearch. And I found the death index book as item 3 on film 1435940. The Minnick entries are on image 449.

Even though this is just an index of the death records, it does support the death date and place found in several other records.
