Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

1) How many known ancestors (at least a name) do you have in your generation of 4th great-grandparents? What about your significant other’s generation of 4th great-grandparents?
2) Tell us how you figured this out, and highlight your most recent additions to your list.
To determine the answer, I took the following steps:
- I opened my Ancestry tree and switched to a 7-generation FAN chart.
- I counted the number of ancestors in each colored area of the chart.
- I recorded these numbers in an Excel table for easy comparison.
I specifically used the 7-generation FAN chart because it conveniently displays all 4th great-grandparents on a single chart.
I avoided using the FamilySearch tree because other users could have added 4th great-grandparents who aren’t actually part of my tree, which could lead to inaccuracies.
Although I could have used RootsMagic to generate a similar chart, my husband’s tree is in his RootsMagic file, separate from mine. Therefore, using RootsMagic wouldn’t have provided the information I needed for his tree.
My Tree vs. My Husband’s Tree
In my tree, I have identified 61 of my 4th great-grandparents, whereas my husband’s tree includes only 34. The primary difference is that my ancestry is predominantly colonial, while my husband’s lineage includes several lines of immigrants who arrived after 1850.
