In my recent research, I’ve been trying to document a Nemaha county family’s trek from Germany to Kansas. As part of that research, I stumbled upon the court document granting citizenship.
Quite a few years ago, I indexed some of the Nemaha county’s naturalization records. The index of the 1859-1871 records indicated that the subject of my search, Andrew Reinecke, was naturalized in 1870.
While that exact book does not appear to be available on the FamilySearch site, there is an index available.
Using the Index for Naturalization, I found Andrew Reineke.
Thanks to FamilySearch’s description for this index, I knew that I needed to look in the court records for Nemaha county to locate the journals.
With the information from the index, I located page 276 in Journal G.
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to index some of Nemaha County’s naturalization records. The index for the 1859-1871 records revealed that the person I was researching, Andrew Reinecke, was naturalized in 1870.
Although the exact record book isn’t available on the FamilySearch site, there is an index that I used to find Andrew Reineke.
Thanks to FamilySearch’s detailed description of the index, I knew I needed to search through the Nemaha County court records to locate the appropriate journals.
With the information from the index, I was able to find page 276 in Journal G.

Nemaha County, SS:Be it remembered, That on the 11th day of September A.D. 1890 at the September Term A.D. 1890 of the District Court within and for the County of Nemaha, in the twenty-second Judicial District of the State of Kansas, comes Andrew Reineke and makes application in open Court for admission to citizenship of the United States, and proves to the satisfaction of the Court, by two witnesses, that he has resided in the United States for more than five years last past and within the State of Kansas for more than one year last past and during that time he has behaved himself as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, and also proved that he had made his declaration to beomce a citizen of the United States more than two years before his application, and said Andrew Rewineke did also declare on oath that he would support the Constitution of the United States and that he did entirely and absolutely renounce and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty whatever and particularly to Emperor of Germany,whereof he has heretofore been a subject. whereupon said Andrew Reineke
