Have you ever used resources from GenWeb Archives or contributed to them? With the availability of digitized records on FamilySearch and Ancestry, it’s easy to overlook the valuable resources available through GenWeb Archives. I was recently reminded of this while trying to identify individuals mentioned in the 1776 will of James Alexander from Botetourt County, Virginia.
A Google search for +”Samuel Crawford” +”Jonathan Tosh” +”James Alexander” +Botetourt +Virginia led me to a GenWeb Archive page that indexed marriage records from the Annals of Southwest Virginia. Although this index doesn’t include information on the three Crawford families from Garrard County, Virginia, it does provide marriage dates for many members of the FAN (Friends, Associates, and Neighbors) club.

While the Annals of Southwest Virginia is accessible on Ancestry, searching Ancestry for all three surnames—Crawford, Tosh, and Alexander—would have been challenging. That’s why I’m grateful for the GenWeb resources, which can be easily found through a Google search using multiple surnames.
