AI and Logo Creation

Have you ever used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a logo? Recently, C. McCulloch shared her experience with logo creation using AI in the Genealogy and Artificial Intelligence group on Facebook. Inspired by her post, I decided to experiment with ChatGPT to design a logo for an upcoming event at the Nemaha County Historical Society.

While I was pleased with the initial results, I found the small text (13-30) above the lines less than ideal. To explore other options, I turned to ideogram.ai.

Displayed below are the results from various attempts based on the above prompt.

My revised prompt was:

Design a futuristic logo featuring a tree symbol blending nature, genealogy, history and technology, using green and metallic gray to symbolize growth, connection, and modernity. Write in English text letters and words the following: “Nemaha County” along the bottom. Using the same English text letters, write “Kansas” below that is an slightly smaller font. Using the same English text letters, write “Prussia / German Roots” below that in a slightly smaller font. Do not add anything to the text letters or words and do not remove anything. The logo should be self-explanatory and effortlessly familiar, evoking an instinctive response from the viewer. The logo should aim to establish a strong emotional resonance, allowing it to form a lasting and meaningful connection.

After receiving additional credits and conducting further research on Germany’s timeline and geography, I revised my prompt and made another attempt.

Design a futuristic logo featuring a tree symbol blending nature, genealogy, history and technology, using green and metallic gray to symbolize growth, connection, and modernity. Write in English text letters and words the following: “Nemaha County Kansas” along the bottom. Using the same English text letters, write “Germanic Roots” below that is in a slightly smaller font. Do not add anything to the text letters or words and do not remove anything. The logo should be self-explanatory and effortlessly familiar, evoking an instinctive response from the viewer. The logo should aim to establish a strong emotional resonance, allowing it to form a lasting and meaningful connection.

Displayed below are the results from this prompt using Ideogram.ai.

I’m likely to use the second design in our promotional materials for the Oktoberfest open house. Thank you, Ideogram, for assisting in the creation of the logo.

1 thought on “AI and Logo Creation”

  1. Logos by AI look okay. However, I am starting to find that when I go to read a blog post and the first thing I see is an AI-created image – and they are starting to have that “look” where they are easily identifiable – I am getting turned off and don’t read the post. If the whole post is about AI and those are images, that’s fine. But if the writer is sharing a family story or methodology or whatever and that image opens the post, I wonder whether AI produced the text, too, and I move on.
