Calling All Genea-Musings Fans:
It’s Saturday Night Again –
Time For Some More Genealogy Fun!!
Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.
1) Today’s challenge is to “Write a 100-word life sketch of one of your 2X great-grandparents.” [NOTE: or another of your ancestors!]
Oh, how I would have hated such an assignment in high school! First, I don’t excel at narrative writing. Second, getting the word count to exactly 100 words is a challenge that even AI can’t accomplish.
My first attempt was to ask ChatGPT to write the sketch using a narrative report for Thurston Kennedy Wells from RootsMagic. The resulting life sketch was 102 words.

I then tried Meta AI to try and get a narrative meeting the 100 word requirement. Again AI failed at this particular aspect of the task.

For my third attempt, I used Copilot. Again, the AI tool did not get the word count correct.

For my next trial, I switch ancestors. I provided ChatGPT with the timeline report instead of the narrative report. Again, the word count does not meet the requirements.

With a few minor changes to the original life sketch by ChatGPT, I was able to meet the word count requirement. I took out the words ‘and land transactions’ in the middle of the sketch and replaced the word ‘rests’ in the last sentence with ‘is buried’.

Thanks Randy and Linda for this challenge!
