Validating Family History

Has someone in your family compiled a history of the descendants of one of your great-grandparents? Are you a part of it?

I was fortunate to receive such a family history from my grandmother—a list of descendants of Judson and Josie Crawford, lovingly compiled by my great-aunt, Gladys Crawford. Below is a diagram of a portion of that family tree.

Through a Your DNA Guide class on using shared DNA matches, I learned how to create a genetic network from a bubble group.

As I worked through building this network, I discovered that it aligned beautifully with the Crawford family history documented by my great-aunt. In the diagram of the family history, those highlighted in bright yellow appear on my DNA match list, and most of these individuals are also part of the bubble group.

Thanks to this genetic network, I now have DNA-based confirmation of the Crawford family history!
