Have you noticed Ancestry’s new BETA family tree feature? This update introduces a small blue icon resembling a group of people, which appears on your family tree.
This icon allows you to connect DNA matches to your tree. Clicking on the icon opens a sidebar where you can view DNA matches who descend from the selected ancestor. If you’ve already connected some DNA matches to your tree, the sidebar will highlight those connections.

By selecting View Connection, you can see how a match is connected to a common ancestor.

Clicking on View Match takes you to the DNA match’s profile, where you can review their details and, if desired, connect them to your tree. In my case, since I already had this match in my file, I simply linked them to my tree.
After linking the match, I clicked the blue icon again, and it updated to show that I now have 11 matches in my tree. Of those, nine share Pauline as an ancestor, while two are connected through Paul.

As a non-DNA person, I have to say that at times it’s annoying when so much of what Ancestry is doing now focusses on DNA research…All I want from them right now is the Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Parish Registers they digitized two years ago … still no word on when they’ll appear online. I’m sure that has nothing to do with DNA improvements, but some goodies for us non-DNA people would be nice as well. Just my grumpy .02 worth.
As I learn more about my DNA results and what they can and cannot do, I too think too much emphasis is placed on DNA over the need to research.

Is this only available to American subscribers I wonder. I got a message about it when I opened Ancestry today but when I went to my tree – no blue dots 🙁 I have taken an Ancestry DNA test…
This is a BETA feature. Thus, it will roll out randomly.
You do have to turn on the feature. In your tree, check TREE VIEWING OPTIONS to see if you can turn on ThruLines Icons.
I’ve added Dana Leeds video to the post. She discusses turning the feature on at about 1:39.
