As reported in the 9 Aug 1917 issue of the Courier Democrat, the Nemaha County Draft Board continued examining potential draftees on Wednesday, providing the press with information on 47 individuals.
Wednesday noon: Well, here are the figures on the forty-seven names that we were able to get of those who were examined on Wednesday morning, before going to press. Out of the 47 Wednesday, ten did not claim exemptions. This is the best record made for any one day, and is very nearly 20 percent. Those who made no claims Wednesday morning were:
Marion Riley, Goff; Goff Wilson, Sabetha; Albert V. Huerter, Seneca; James P. Alexander, Soldier; William E. Huerter, Seneca; Chas. A. Tate, Seneca; John G. Meyer, Sabetha; Emil Hecht, Seneca.
Five were discharged for physical disability: Harley Torrence of Baileyville, Chester Garvin of Goff, John W. O’Neal of Goff, Benj. F. Parnell of Seneca, and Henry A. Stegeman of Onaga.
