Honoring Local Service: Russell Buehler’s Military Achievement

In the midst of World War II, the young men of Nemaha County were stepping forward to serve their country, and one of them, Russell Conwell Buehler, recently achieved a significant milestone. As reported in the August 4, 1941, issue of the Courier Tribune, Buehler, a Seneca native, received his commission as a First Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps. His journey from Kansas to serving in the Canal Zone, Panama, reflects the commitment and dedication of local servicemen during this critical period in history. His achievements were officially recognized with a commission signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a prestigious honor for the young officer and his family.

Russell Buehler Made A First Lieutenant

Russell Conwell Buehler, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Buehler, received his commission as First Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps on June 20th.

The commission was issued by President Roosevelt and signed by the adjutant general. The document was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Buehler.

Lieutenant Buehler retains Seneca as his residence. He has been Second Lieutenant on duty at Fort Amador, Canal Zone, Panama, for several months.

Lt. Buehler is a graduate of Seneca High School and the engineering department of Kansas State College, Manhattan.
