This list provides a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal moment in Nemaha County’s history. The names recorded here reflect the difficult decisions faced by local men and their families during World War I—whether to serve without exemption, seek deferment, or, in some cases, fail to report. These lists are more than just names; they represent the personal stories, sacrifices, and challenges of a generation called to war. For genealogists and historians, they offer valuable insights into family histories and community dynamics at the time. As we reflect on this document, we honor the service and experiences of these individuals, recognizing the lasting impact of their choices on both their families and their hometowns.
