Saturday Night Genealogy Fun

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It’s Saturday Night again –

1)  Our ancestors had to work to support themselves and their families.  Do you know what occupations your 2nd great-grandfathers had?  Tell us about them.  If one intrigues or mystifies you, ask a free Artificial Intelligence tool to tell you more about the occupation in that place and time.

Eight great great grandfathers and EIGHT farmers (based on census records)

Out of curiosity, I asked Perplixty what the most popular occupation was in Kansas in 1880. And you guessed it, FARMING.

The most popular male occupation in Kansas in 1880 was farming. Agriculture dominated the job market during this period, with farmers and other agricultural workers making up a significant portion of the workforce. Nationally, over 47% of employed persons aged 10 and older were engaged in agricultural occupations, and this trend was reflected in Kansas, a state with a strong agrarian economy at the time.

Not only were they farmers buth they were also land owners.

  • 1885 – Washington Marrion Crawford purchased 160 acres in Ford County, Kansas.
  • 1887 – RIchmond Fisk Hammond filed a homestead application for land in Ford County, Kansas
  • 1860 – HIram M. Currey purchased 160 acres in Leavenworth County, Kansas.
  • 1869 – Albert Hutchinson purchased land in Bremer county, Iowa.
  • 1869 – Noah Washington Briles purchased land in Coffey county, Kansas.
  • 1879 – James Marshall Richetts purchased land in Woodson county, Kansas
