Sharing Family History Through Song:
Using AI and YouTube to Reach Cousins
Have you been following Randy Seaver of Genea-Musings? I consider Randy one of the pioneers in applying AI tools to genealogy. His recent introduction of the ABC (Ancestral Biography Creation) process has inspired many of us to take our family stories to the next level. By following the steps in Randy’s ABC process, you can go beyond writing a biography—you can even generate a song about your ancestor!
While I’ve written several biographies already, I’ve just begun experimenting with turning those stories into music using Suno.com. So far, I’ve created songs for two relatives. As my husband pointed out, the output is improving—and I agree. The key? Feeding the AI tools rich, detailed information. The more context you provide, the better the results.
In earlier blog posts—ABC: Poem or Song Lyrics and ABC Part 3: Song—I shared details of my songwriting experience using AI. After completing the songs, I wanted to find a simple way to share them with close cousins and family members. That’s where YouTube comes in.
If you’re interested in sharing your own AI-generated songs, here’s a quick guide:
How to Upload a Suno Song to YouTube
- Generate the Video on Suno.com
- Click the three dots (•••) next to your song
- Select “Download” and then choose “Generate Video”
- Download the Video
- Once the video is ready, click the three dots (•••) again
- Select “Download” to save the video file to your computer
- Log into YouTube using your Google (Gmail) account
- Click your profile picture (top right) and select “View Your Channel”
- Click the CREATE button (top right corner) and select “Upload Video”
- Follow the prompts to locate your file and upload it to YouTube
- Under visibility, I chose to make my video “Unlisted”
- This means only people with the link can view it
Once your song is on YouTube, it’s easy to share with others—whether through a blog post, email, or social media. It’s a fun and creative way to bring your ancestors to life for your extended family.
