Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:
1) According to Wikipedia, today is World Music Day! How should we celebrate?
2) How has music affected your life? What is your favorite music type? What are your favorite songs?
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. While I didn’t inherit my mother’s musical talent, she made sure I had piano lessons. I learned how to read and play music, but over the years, I’ve realized that I’m more of a consumer than a producer when it comes to music.
During my high school and college years, I often fell asleep to music. My small but treasured record collection included musicals like Camelot and artists like The Carpenters. Later, I added John Denver, Neil Diamond, Simon & Garfunkel, and Chicago to my growing playlist.
After moving to rural Kansas—where radio choices were limited—my musical preferences began to shift. That’s when I discovered country music. Around the time iPods came out, I started using iTunes and began adding even more variety to my collection, including Christian music, the Boston Pops, and Ferrante & Teicher. Today, I still use iTunes to organize and play my music—and my library has grown to over 9,200 songs!
While I have playlists spanning several genres, I find myself listening to Christian music more than anything else. It’s what centers me. Below is one of my current favorites.
