Briles Letter 040
Sept. 28thDear Marcia & Mike,
I hope this letter finds you both doing well and you haven’t worried too much about the genealogy records. I am sorry I’ve kept it so long. We’ve had quite a busy summer and time has slipped by so quickly.Fred & I got to go to New Orleans to see one of our granddaughters play in the A.A.U. National basketball tournaments there, also our son, Lonnie Bailey, coached his daughter’s team – Team Ct. It was really a joy for me. I have always loved the game – played many years in grade & high school, college and on outside women’s teams, also coached.
The team came out 5th in the nation. There were 59 teams there from all over the nation and I am so proud of my son & his daughter.

After Lonnie finished at the tournament, he flew to Philmont, a scout camp near Cimarron, N. Mex., and took his troop on a scout trip there, I believe eight days hike. I don’t know how he does so much. He has a job with a company that works for the government. It’s like he’s still in the navy.
After returning from New Orleans, we started cleaning a rental at Hooker, Ok. We got it rented and then came and started on an eight room house that Lonnie & I own over here, by us (about 8 miles east of us on highway 64). We bought it about 5 years ago and it’s on a 600 acre ranch.
Lonnie & his family came about the 8th of Sept. and moved in there, however, Lonnie was unable to remain, because they still have their home in Salem Ct. to sell, plus an apartment house. I don’t know when he’ll be able to come. I hope it will be soon.

The kids, Shannon 12 yrs. (girl), Micah 14 (boy), and Erin (girl) 16 are enrolled in Forgan school.
I had a birthday the 24th and I got a card from Dan & Daphney Briles, plus several others. I enjoyed each card.
I am going to send the album by the UPS this afternoon. I think it will be the safest way. I have worried about it getting lost or something. I realize how much time and money, also work that you have put in on it. I hope it was not too much to ask of you to let me copy it. Just in case something happens to yours – remember I have a copy that I can copy for you! Hopefully I’ll have mine.
Well, Fred wants me to help him get a baler and tractor over to a field 10 mi. east to cut feed & bale it. I have to take the pickup while he takes the tractor.
I’ll close – thanks so much!
Come see us (5 miles west of Knowles + ½ south)
Love, Mickey + Fred Barby
