Have you taken an AncestryDNA test? If so, you may have noticed a recent update to your Ethnicity Origins. I received my updated results last week, and the biggest change I noticed is that the regions have become more precise.
For example, in 2024 my results showed that 63% of my ancestry came from England and Northwest Europe. With the 2025 update, that same percentage is now divided into two regions: England & Northwest Europe and West Midlands. It’s a subtle shift, but one that offers a clearer picture of where my ancestors may have lived generations ago.
Last year, I analyzed the origins of both my paternal and maternal lines, and those findings align well with these updated results. If I were ready to begin research in Europe, this new data would give me valuable clues about where to start looking for records and family connections.
