Monday’s Diggings: Jacob Briles Grant

Digging Records Monday

Continuing my exploration through the BRILES folder, today’s discovery is a Randolph County, North Carolina deed involving Jacob Briles, the son of my fourth great-grandparents, John Briles and Nancy Beckerdite—and thus my third great-granduncle.

This document records the grant of fifty acres of land on the waters of the Uharie River from the State of North Carolina to Jacob Briles. As with many early North Carolina land grants, it offers a glimpse into the family’s settlement patterns and the gradual expansion of their holdings in Randolph County.

This land grant helps place Jacob Briles firmly within the community of early settlers along the Uharie River, an area that was home to several members of the extended Briles family. Deeds like this one not only trace land ownership but also help map family connections, migration paths, and the gradual establishment of a life on the North Carolina frontier. Each document adds another piece to the story of how the Briles family laid down roots that would extend westward in the generations to come.
