Saturday Night Genealogy Fun

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans!

It’s Saturday Night again—
and that means only one thing…

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!! 🧬🎉

Come on, everybody—join in, accept the mission, and execute it with precision (or at least enthusiasm).

This Week’s Mission

  1. Are you registered for RootsTech 2026 yet?
    It’s less than six weeks away—March 5–7, 2026.
  2. What are you looking forward to attending, either in person or online?
Which keynote talks, classes, or special events are on your radar? For each day, list at least one “can’t-miss” session. At the moment, there are 206 online sessions listed, although some are foreign-language keynote talks or replays.
  3. Share your RootsTech 2026 plans in your own blog post or on Facebook, Substack, BlueSky, or another social media platform.
Be sure to leave a link to your post in the comments on this blog post so the rest of us can find and enjoy it.

My RootsTech 2026 Plans

Isn’t technology fantastic? I get to stay home in my own personal “genea-cave” and still participate in RootsTech 2026. As a proud #NotAtRootsTech participant, my schedule is limited to the online events.

Before scheduling sessions, I first browsed through the list and identified those that caught my interest. Since online sessions can be viewed later, this became my “to-view” list. From there, I selected the sessions I want to watch live and added those to my schedule.

Having participated as #NotAtRootsTech for several years now, I’ve developed a list of perennial favorites:

  • General Sessions – Companies often announce new tools and product releases during these sessions.
  • Diahan Southard’s DNA sessions – Some of this may be review, but her techniques for analyzing DNA matches have been incredibly helpful.
  • Artificial Intelligence – I need all the help I can get keeping up with this fast-changing field!
  • Crista Cowan – and really, anything DNA-related.
  • YouTube videos created by vendors and fellow attendees.

Here’s what is currently on my schedule:

Thursday:
  • Guidelines for Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligencein Genealogy in 2026
  • DNA Swim school: Part 1
  • What’s New at Ancestry
  • DNA Evidence Analysis with AI
  • AI and Famiy History: Help or Hype
  • DNA’s Fan Club: Using Shared Matches to Solve Genealogical Mysteries
  • The 5Ws of west Virginia Vital Records
Friday
  • FamilySearch Global and Tech Forum 2026
  • FamilySearch Full-Text Search
  • RootsTech Innovation and Tech Forum 2026
  • DNA Swim School – Part 2
  • Roots Tech General Session part 2
  • AI & Family HIstory: Foundations and First Steps
  • Search Party Clues Strategy
Saturday
  • Wanted: Seekign the Identity of Unknown Parents
  • Rootstech General Session 3
  • Future of AI in Genealogy
  • DNA Swim School Part 3

Whether you’re attending RootsTech 2026 in person, joining online, or proudly participating as #NotAtRootsTech, this week’s challenge is all about planning, anticipation, and a little genealogical daydreaming. With so many sessions to choose from, the hardest part may be deciding what not to watch.

Now it’s your turn—share your RootsTech 2026 plans and let us know what’s on your “can’t-miss” list. I’m always looking for new ideas and sessions I might have overlooked. As always, the real fun is seeing what everyone else is discovering.

So grab your calendar, mark those sessions, and let the genealogy fun continue! 🧬🎉

  1. RootsTech really has a strong focus on DNA this year. I think those sessions will be very popular! Enjoy.
