Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):
1) Determine where your ancestral families were in May 1876 — 150 years ago.
2) List them, their family members, their birth years, and their residence location (as close as possible).
GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS
Washington Marion Crawford and his wife Mary (Foster) Crawford were likely living in Warren County, Indiana in 1876. His pension record places him in Washington Township, Warren County in 1873 and the family is found there in 1880.Washington’s brother, James, migrated from Warren County, Indiana to Dodge City, Kansas in 1878. Washington followed his brother by moving his family to Dodge City in 1884. In 1876, Washington and Mary’s household owuld have included daughter Ida, born in 1862; son, Judson bornin 1866, daughter Carrie born in 1870 and daughter Lida, born in 1871.
Richmond Fisk Hammond and his wife Sarah (Ralston) Hammond were living in Knox county, Illinois in 1875 according to tax records. By 1880m the family was living in Union Township, Hardin County, Iowa. The family included daughter, Estella orn 1868, son Forest born 1868, daughter Nellie born 1871, and daughter Josie born 1874.
Hiram M. Currey and wife Angelina Jane (Burke) Currey were living in Kickapoo, Leavenworth County, Kansas in 1875. By 1880, the family had moved to Delaware township, Leavenworth county. Children in the household in 1876 included Sarah Evelina born 1859, John Henry borh 1861, Mary Caroline born 1864, HIram Mile born 1866, William Quency born 1868, Jame Gilbert born 1871, Elizabeth Jane born 1874 and Dora Ann born 1876.
Albert Hutchinson and his wife Julia (Harding) Hutchinson were living in Douglas Township, Mitchell County, Iowa in 1880. SInce they sold Bremer county, Iowa land in 1871, they likely moved to Mitchell county shortly after that. The 1876 household would have included Gerturde, born 1860; Albert G., born 1862; William Henry, born 1865; Frederick born 1867; Cary born 1869; Winifred May, born 1871; Elnora born 1874 and Guy Thomsas born 1876.
Noah Washington Briles and Sarah Jane (Thompson) Briles were linving in Neosho Township, Coffey County, Kansas in 1875. Also living in the 1876 household were Ida Angelina born 1868 and Edward Grant born 1869.
James Marshall Richetts and Rachel Elmeda (Christy) Ricketts wre living in in 1876. In 1876, the household included Frances Artlissa,born 1868; Hulda May, born 1870; Annabelle, born 1871; Daisy Pearl born 1873 and Manford Milton born 1875.
George Mentzer and Emiline (Minnick) Mentzer were living in Center Township, Woodson County, Kansas in 1875. Their household included Charles, born 1869; John Frederick, born 1871; Susan May, born 1873, and Henry Arnold born 1874.
Thurston Kennedy Wells and Salome (Crandall) Wells were living in Liberty Township, Woodson County, Kansas. Thurston’s two sons by his first wife, Sarah Hall, were adults in 1876 and living in Woodson County, Kansas. The 1876 household of Thurston and Salome would have included two daughters, Anna, born 1868 andeEttie Adell, born 1873.

Zebulon Foster was living in Warren County, Indiana in 1876. Besides Mary (Foster) Crawford, the following children were living in 1876: Edward Foster, born 1833; Rachel (Foster) Crider, born 1837; Eliza (Foster) Bell, born 1840, William F. Foster, born 1846 and Hariet (Foster) Fleming, born 1848.
Horatio Hammond was living in Knox county, Illinois in 1876. Besides Richmond Fisk Hammond, the following children were living in 1876 Amelia Emily 9Hammond) Hadley, born1826; Juliett (Hammond) Simms, born 1872; George M. Hammond, born 1829; Rancis N. Hammond, born 1830; Jehiel Hammond, born 1832; Lucius Hammond, born 1833; and Cornelius Hammond, born 1836.
James Barr Ralson and Nany Jane (McCormick) Ralston were living in Grudy County, Iowa in 1876. Besides Sarah Ellen (Ralston) Hammond, their children living in 1876 included Amanda (Ralston) Simkins, born 1838; Matilda Ralston, born 1840; James McCormic Ralston, born 1845; David Franklin Ralston, born 1847, Ellis Simpkins Ralston, born 1851; Margaret (Ralston) Barnes, born 1854 and Alicia Melinda (Ralston) Lighter, born 1857.
Alexander Briles was living in Coffey County, Kansas in 1876. Besides Noah Washington Briles, Alexander had the following living children in 1876: Sarah (Briles) Ruggles, b 1841; John F. Briles, born 1843; Louise Jane (Briles) Mentzer, b 1846; Robert Alexander Briles, born 1849; Harison W. William Taylor Thompson and Polly Ann (Evans) Thompson were living in Wapello county, Iowa in 1876. Besides Sarah Jane (Thompson) Briles, other children living in 1876 included John Evans, born 1845, William F., born 1848, Martha E (Thompson) Ingersoll, born 1850, Julia Thompson, born 1853 and Amamda Ellen (Thompson) Goudy, born 1854; Arcena M. (Thompson) Harper), born 1858; Polly Ann (Thompson) Ricketts born 1860; and Clara Belle (Thompson) Goudy.
John Lewis Ricketts and Orilda Matilda Reed (Ricketts) were living in Clinton County, Indiana in 1876. Besides James Marshall Ricketts, their living children included Priscilla Jane (Ricketts) Louks b1849; Mary Ann (Ricketts) BOnd, born 1851; William Lewis Ricketts born 1855; John Edward Ricketts, born 1857, Joseph Harvey Ricketts, born 1861 and Clemuel W. Ricketts, born 1863.
Samuel Christy was living in Jefferson Township, Tipton county, Indiana in 1876. Besides Rachel Christy Ricketts, his other children livin gin 1876 included Ebenezer Christy, born 1853; Samuel Milton Christy, born 1855; Lydia Alice (Christy) Goff, born 1858 and Esther (Christy) Rector, born 1860.
John Minnick was living in Kewanee, Henry county, Illinois in the 1870s. In addition to Emiline Minnick Mentzer, his children living in 1876 included Wilson J. Minnic, born 1844; Ruhanah Minnick, born 8147, Barbara Ellen (Minnick) Frick, born 1849; Mary E. Minnick, born 1851 and Susan Loretta (Minnick_ Halterman, born 1853.
Mary (Kennedy) Wells was a widow living in Chester township, Eaton County, Michigan in 1873. Siblings of Thurston Kennedy Wells who were living in 1876 included Benjamin Franklin Wells, William Wallce Wells, Hannah Anne Perry, Lucinda M. Hall and Nancy Phidila Doolittle all living in Michigan in 1876.
