Taking Air Mechanics Course in California
Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Haug arc now living in Los Angeles, where he is taking a course in Aviation Mechanics, which he expects to finish some time in March. They have an apartment near, the school and find living costs very reasonable. Their address is 1627 1/2 Flower St., Los Angeles.


Volunteers To
Fill The Quota

Arthur R. Hartter of Sabetha First To Army
First man to join Uncle Sam’s service through the local draft board will be Arthur R. Hartter of Sabetha. Hartter was No. 39 on the county draft order but has volunteered to go ahead of his turn. He is to report at Seneca for the early morning train next Monday, to be sent from here to the induction station at Leavenworth._Hartter fills the first Nemaha quota of one man.
In case Hartter is not accepted, next man will be Vernet Harry Randel of Corning, first man on the regular order list who is available for immediate service.


Working for Air Licenses
Wilbur Stuke and James Gilson jr have been here several days and left Saturday for Hamburg, Iowa, where Gilson lives and where Stuke is taking air training. Wilbur has purchased one of the Gilson Piper Cub planes and is working towards a private pilot’s license. After getting that he plans to earn a commercial license.


Goff Boys’ Picture In the Sunday Star
T. M. Reed and W. L. Furst of Goff, were included in a picture in the Rotogravure section of Sunday’s Kansas City Star, under the caption of “Young Kansas Citians Working for Reserve Commission in the Navy.” Tommy Reed is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Reed of south Reilly township and Walter Furst, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Furst of Goff. Having completed a month long cruise aboard a United States battleship, these young men are studying intensively at Northwestern University to qualify as reserve officers in Uncle Sam’s first line of defense. In three months, they are taking a skeletonized version of the study course at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. There are 25 young men in the-group picture and nearly all but Tommy and Walter are from Kansas City. Both Nemaha county young men were students at Kansas State College, Manhattan, last year.
